As a member of a very musical family, Leila has been immersed with music from the moment of conception. At the age of 7, Leila began performing as a soloist at special functions, festivals, operas, musicals and concerts. By the age of 10, she was writing and performing her own songs -- a passion that continues today.
Leila is a member of a Scandinavian family full of artists and singers. Her singing career began in the family sauna as a very small child, where her family spent many happy hours harmonizing together. Both of her parents had beautiful singing voices and her younger sister was also blessed with musical talent.
People noticed that Leila could sing pretty early on and by the time she was six or seven, she was performing solos at school assemblies. Soon she was snatching up leads in musicals and received excellent training in a Toronto based Opera company. Leila spent many years singing as lead soloist in several professional choirs and performed at multicultural events in the greater Toronto area. In addition, she sang with two small song groups, but mostly performed as a soloist at various functions, coffee houses and concerts.
When Leila was ten years old, she wrote her first song, and one of the songs on her first CD, All The Time, was written at the ripe old age of thirteen. As soon as Leila realized she could make music this way, she was hooked. Songwriting provided Leila with the tools she needed to make sense of her world and provided her with a lifeline through many difficult times. Over the years, Leila has written scores of songs.
Leila chose not to pursue a singing career when she was younger, (though she was presented with numerous opportunities,) and concentrated instead on raising her family. Throughout those years, however, she continued to write, record, and sing at local venues.
Leila enjoys everything about creating music and has done her best to present her music in a form that can benefit others in some way. Each song has a special story behind it and a special message that others can relate to. Music has been a source of profound joy and inspiration for Leila throughout her life and her hope is that her music will uplift her listeners' spirits as much as it uplifts hers.
A prolific writer, Leila struggles to find the time to produce her songs so that they can be shared. She has recently decided to lay down these songs as quickly as possible for the sake of getting them out there, and not worrying so much about perfection.
